Studio Core Classes

Visual Images engages in explorations into visual metaphor, analogue and symbol–making. Imagery for performance such as costume, mask, and set design may be a major focus. Installations are designed and created within this class in conjunction with the sound and movement classes.

Sound Images explores the use of sound as a creative medium through composing and performing. An emphasis is placed on non–Western and contemporary styles and techniques as well as the role of music in contemporary society.

Movement Images concerns itself with human movement as an expressive medium through its relationship to space, time and energy, and its commonalities with the other disciplines. The student focuses on choreography, individually and in groups.

Dramatic Images focuses on the use of fundamental theatrical techniques in non–traditional settings. Voice, movement, improvisation, characterization and dramatic structure are incorporated into the development of multidisciplinary pieces.

Word Images explores writing through a series of interrelated exercises that build the student’s confidence in producing creative texts. The visual environment of language is related to other forms of image–making.
